India is expanding renewable energy deployment as it works toward its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030.

The country installed 15.3 GW of solar capacity in the first quarter of 2026, its highest quarterly total, according to Mercom India’s Q1 2026 India Solar Market Update Report. Additions rose more than 143% from 6.3 GW in Q1 2025 and nearly 49% from about 10.3 GW in Q4 2025.

India’s policy direction, investment momentum, and supply and demand trends will play a critical role in achieving the country’s renewable energy goals and strengthening its position as a clean energy market.

At Mercom India’s Renewable Energy Summit, scheduled for July 1 and 2, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi, industry stakeholders will discuss how government policies, regulatory reforms, and renewable energy targets are influencing market growth, investment trends, and project development. The discussion, titled “India’s Clean Energy Expansion: The Path Forward,” will be held on July 1.

The session will cover grid readiness, financing gaps, domestic manufacturing scale, skill shortages, and regulatory uncertainty. Panelists will also discuss how stronger alignment between the government and industry can accelerate the next phase of renewable energy growth.

The panel will feature Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson at Central Electricity Authority; Samir Chandra Saxena, Chairman and Managing Director at Grid Controller of India; Khalid Nadeem, Chief Operating Officer of Solar IPP Business at SAEL; and Raj Prabhu, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder at Mercom Capital Group.

The 2026 Summit will feature the Mercom India Awards, which will honor achievements and technological innovations in India’s clean energy market, as well as the Mercom India Renewable Summit Expo, a platform for renewable energy companies to showcase solutions and services. The expo will give participants opportunities to connect with industry leaders, explore business opportunities, and enhance brand visibility.
