Philippines Awards 3.43 GW of Renewable Projects in Green Energy Auction

The auction includes 1.97 GW of solar photovoltaic projects

The Department of Energy, Philippines, through its Green Energy Auction-Bids Evaluation and Awards Committee (GEA-BEAC), has announced the list of successful bidders under the second round of the Green Energy Auction Program, awarding a total of 3.43 GW of solar and wind projects.

A total of 42 bidders were declared successful after the latest round of bidding for projects that will be developed at 105 different sites in the country’s Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao regions.

The allotted capacity will be installed over the next three years, from 2024 to 2026.

A total of 1.87 GW of ground-mounted solar projects, 9.63 MW of rooftop solar projects, 90 MW of floating solar projects, and 1.46 GW of onshore wind projects were awarded in the auction.

Luzon

In the Luzon region alone, a total of 1.66 GW of ground-mounted solar projects were awarded. Out of the total allotted capacity, 506.76 MW of ground-mounted capacity will be installed in 2024, 506.36 MW in 2025, and 640.87 MW in 2026.

Some of the prominent winners of ground-mounted solar power projects in the region were Labrador Green Energy Corporation, Citicore Solar Quezon Inc., Liberty Solar Green Energy Corporation, Wyn Power Corporation, Ixus Solar Energy Corporation, and Opus Solar Energy Corporation.

Other segments, like the rooftop solar project, saw 8.96 MW capacity awarded, and 960.58 MW of onshore wind projects were also awarded.

Out of the total rooftop capacity, 1.69 MW capacity will be installed in 2024, and 7.21 MW of rooftop capacity will be installed in 2025.

Of the total capacity allotted for onshore wind projects, 230.4 MW will be installed in 2025 and 730 MW in 2026.

The entire rooftop solar project capacity was awarded to Phinma Solar Energy Corporation.

For onshore wind projects, Alternergy Tanay Wind Corporation and Citicore Wind Energy Corporation were the primary winners.

The 90 MW floating solar capacity is to be installed in 2026.

Visayas

In the Visayas region, a total of 173 MW of ground-mounted solar projects were awarded. The total capacity is to be installed by 2026.

Some of the prominent winners were Joy-Nostalg Solaris Incorporated, Citicore Solar Cebu Inc., and Citicore Solar Negros Occidental Inc. 

Additionally, 250 kW of rooftop solar projects and 502 MW of onshore wind projects were allotted. The total rooftop solar capacity is projected to be installed in 2025, and the total onshore wind capacity will be installed in 2026.

The rooftop solar projects were awarded to Phinma Solar Energy Corporation.

Citicore Wind Energy Corporation and Gemini Wind Energy Corporation were among the winners of onshore wind projects in the region.

Philippines Auction 2

Mindanao

In the Mindanao region, 48 MW of ground-mounted solar projects and 180 kW of rooftop solar projects were allotted.

Of the total capacity allotted for ground-mounted solar projects, 8 MW will be deployed by 2025 and 40 MW by 2026.

Enfinity Philippine Renewable Resources Third Inc. and Apolaki Seven Inc. were the winners for ground-mounted projects in the region.

The total capacity of rooftop solar projects is to be installed in 2025.

The rooftop solar projects were allotted to Phinma Solar Energy Corporation.

Philippines Auction 3

In June last year, the Philippines’ Department of Energy had awarded 19 contracts to develop 1.57 GW of renewable energy projects under the first round of the 2 GW Green Energy Auction Program. The auction was held for solar, hydro, wind, and biomass projects in the country’s Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao regions.

Earlier, the Manila Electricity Company, a Philippines-based power distribution company, had invited bids to develop 850 MW of renewable energy projects in the country.
