Ola Electric has begun deliveries of its Ola Shakti home battery energy storage system (BESS) powered by 4680 Bharat cells, marking the company’s entry into the residential energy backup segment beyond electric scooters.
Deliveries of the 6 kW/9.1 kWh variant have already started in Bengaluru after receiving Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. The company announced that it has also secured the BIS certification for the 3kW/5.2kWh configuration of Ola Shakti.
The current pricing for Shakti’s larger units is significantly higher than earlier introductory offers: the 9.1 kWh model is listed at ₹249,999 (~$2,767) and the 5.2 kWh model at ₹149,999 (~$1,661), compared with earlier advertised launch prices of ₹29,999 (~$332.04) for smaller versions.
Shakti leverages Ola’s in-house 4680 Bharat Cells built at its gigafactory plans in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
Ola positions Shakti as a modern alternative to traditional inverter-plus-lead-acid-battery setups and diesel generators, highlighting silent operation, low maintenance, and automotive-grade safety.
The product is designed for Indian conditions, with IP67 dust- and water-resistance and a compact footprint, allowing homeowners to place it without taking up much space.
Last December, Ola Electric received approval from the Ministry of Heavy Industries to release incentives totaling ₹3.66 billion (~$44 million) under the Production Linked Incentive program for Automobile and Auto Components (PLI-Auto Program) for claims for the financial year 2024–25. The approval pertains to the demand incentive for the determined sales value for FY 2024-25 and authorizes the release of ₹3.66 billion (~$44 million) to Ola Electric through IFCI, the designated financial institution for disbursement under the PLI-Auto Program.
Earlier, the board of directors and the shareholders of Ola Electric Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ola Electric Mobility, approved a proposal to raise ₹8.77 billion (~$98.92 million) by issuing up to 877.64 million shares to Ola Cell Technologies, another subsidiary.
