Mercom’s Q2 2020 India Solar Market Update is out, and the numbers do not paint a pretty picture. On September 1, 2020, Mercom will host a webinar to analyze the latest findings and developments in India’s solar sector over the quarter.

The solar sector continues to face several difficulties amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Investments have dipped by 90% over the last quarter. Investments in Q2 were the lowest ever recorded in a quarter since Q1 2017, as far back as Mercom’s data goes. The webinar will address these critical issues along with a range of other topics related to the Indian solar market.

However, there are currently 42 GW of large-scale projects under development, giving the industry a robust pipeline to look forward to. There are also another 32.4 GW of projects tendered and awaiting auction.

Mercom Webinar - Indian Solar Market Update and Developments

The panelists include Dilip Nigam, advisor to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Shailesh Kumar Mishra, Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The officials will speak about the strategies for growth in the current environment from the perspective of policies and government initiatives.

Raj Prabhu, Chief Executive Officer, Mercom Capital Group, and Priya Sanjay, Managing Director (MD), Mercom India, will host the session.

The webinar will put the spotlight on the future of solar energy in a weak economy during a raging pandemic. COVID-19 has severely impacted the solar sector in India, with a sharp decline in installations, primarily due to supply chain disruptions and lack of labor for project development. The second half of the year remains challenging as projects are likely to be moved to the next year, while the industry tries to recuperate from the disruptions. The webinar will also discuss the impact of the safeguard duty extension and the probable outcomes and expectations from other duties that have been proposed. The panelists will shed light on all these issues and their ramifications in the webinar.

The audience can also engage with the speakers by asking questions relevant to the discussion.
