The state-run power generator, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), has issued a notice inviting tender (NIT) to set up a 3.5 MW solar+wind hybrid power project at NTPC Kudgi, Karnataka. The last date for bid submissions is November 10, 2016. NTPC will notify the winning bidder on November 30, 2016. The project will be allocated through competitive bidding.

The awarded developer will set up the project on a turnkey basis and provide comprehensive operation and maintenance services for a 10-year period.

According to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, this is the second auction focused on a hybrid system in the current financial year. In June 2016, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) had issued an NIT to develop a 2.5 MW capacity project at Rangreek in Himachal Pradesh. Previously, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) sources told Mercom that due to uneven distribution of renewable energy resources in the country, these hybrid systems will be necessary to realize the target of 175 GW renewable energy capacity by 2022.
