NTPC Renewable Energy has invited bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) package for a 56 MW floating solar project with a 60 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at NTPC North Karanpura in Chatra, Jharkhand.

Bids must be submitted by June 24, 2024. Bids will be opened on the same day.

The successful bidder must deliver a complete, functional, and grid-connected floating solar project with integrated BESS on a turnkey basis. This includes the design, engineering, supply, transportation, storage, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning.

The scope also covers project integration with the existing 220 kV switchyard and grid compliance up to the 400/220 kV interconnection point. The bidder may opt for an AC-coupled or DC-coupled BESS, which should be housed in National Fire Protection Association-compliant containers with a minimum DC capacity of 5 MWh per unit.

The BESS should have a design life of 15 years, support daily single-cycle operations, and meet annual guarantees for discharge capacity and round-trip efficiency. All associated systems, including the battery management system, energy management system, power conversion system, supervisory control and data acquisition, protection and communication systems, transformers, fire safety, and monitoring infrastructure, are to be included in compliance with the latest applicable standards.

The successful bidder must operate and maintain the BESS for 15 years and maintain the floating solar project and power evacuation infrastructure for at least five years.

The scope of work includes ensuring minimum guaranteed generation, documentation, detailed design and performance calculations, training for operating personnel, specialized tools, and a warranty for the BESS and its components.

In March this year, NTPC REL invited bids for the land and power evacuation package to develop 550 MW ISTS-connected solar projects with a battery energy storage system near the 550 MW Shimboo ka Burj solar project in Rajasthan.
