NTPC has invited bids for a proof-of-concept battery energy storage system (BESS) pilot project to provide power backup for two units with a cumulative capacity of 420 MW at NTPC Dadri thermal power station, Uttar Pradesh.
The project aims to replace diesel generators with BESS to provide power backup to two Stage I units, each comprising 210 MW. The BESS will be designed for a 4-hour power backup, considering the emergency loads of both units.
Bids must be submitted by February 2, 2025. Bids will be opened on February 11.
Bidders must submit an earnest money deposit of ₹1 million (~$11,550) and a bid procurement fee of ₹4,500 (~$51.97).
Selected bidders must provide design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, supply, packing, loading and unloading, forwarding, transportation, storage, preservation, freight, construction, erection, and commissioning services for the project.
They must also obtain insurance and clearances, pay customs or other duties, and conduct field quality and performance guarantee tests.
Successful bidders must provide comprehensive annual maintenance of the BESS for ten years.
Bidders must have designed, engineered, manufactured/overseen manufacturing, erected/developed, and commissioned/supervised the commissioning of grid-interactive BESS of a minimum cumulative capacity of 2,000 kWh for one to five orders in the last ten years. One of the projects must be of at least 700 kWh capacity and be operational for at least six months.
Alternatively, bidders must have executed projects as engineering, procurement, and construction contractors for new electrified supercharging system/solar projects or a combination of both in the last ten years. A single project must have cost a minimum of ₹56.1 million (~$647,966) and been operational in the previous six months.
Bidders must have an annual turnover of ₹70.1 million (~$809,669) in the last three financial years.
In June 2024, NTPC invited bids to develop 250 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS at its thermal power stations in Gadarwara and Solapur.
