NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) has commissioned 37.95 MW of its 300 MW solar power project in Khavda, Gujarat, bringing the total operational capacity to 262 MW.

The 300 MW solar project is being developed as part of the 450 MW capacity won in Solar Energy Corporation of India’s auction to set up a 1,200 MW interstate transmission system-connected wind-solar hybrid projects (Tranche-V) across India.

In the first phase, a capacity of 142.2 MW was commissioned on June 28, 2025. It was followed by the commissioning of 32.8 MW and 49.125 MW in June and August.

With the latest capacity addition, NGEL has an operational capacity of 7,553.68 MW.

Recently, NGEL announced the commencement of commercial operations of a 12.5 MW solar capacity at Bhuj, Gujarat. This capacity is part of a total 37.5 MW solar project being developed by Ayana Renewable Power Four, a subsidiary of Ayana Renewable Power. In September, NGEL commissioned 25 MW at the same project.

NGEL recently commissioned 100 MW of renewable energy capacity of IRCON Renewable Power’s 500 MW project at the Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka. IRCON had won the 500 MW capacity at the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency’s 2021 auction to set up 5 GW grid-connected solar projects.

In July 2025, in a major clean energy push, the central government allowed NTPC to invest up to ₹200 billion (~$2.32 billion) in NGEL and NTPC Renewable Energy, and its other joint ventures. The earlier investment cap was ₹75 billion (~$873.38 million).

In June, NTPC raised an unsecured $750 million via an external commercial borrowing syndicated term loan facility. The proceeds would be utilized to finance NTPC’s capital expenditure for existing or new capacity addition programs, including flue gas desulphurization projects, renewable energy projects, and refinancing existing external commercial borrowing for capital expenditure purposes.
