NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) has commissioned 100 MW of renewable energy capacity of IRCON Renewable Power’s (IRPL) 500 MW project at the Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka.

IRPL’s parent company, Ircon International, had won the 500 MW capacity at the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency’s 2021 auction to set up 5 GW grid-connected solar projects.

IRPL is a joint venture (JV) in which Ayana Renewable Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green (ONGPL), owns a 24% stake. ONGPL had acquired a 100% stake in Ayana in February of this year, at a cost of ₹195 billion (~$2.3 billion). This was ONGPL’s first investment since its establishment in November 2024.

ONGC NTPC Green is, in turn, also a JV in which NGEL owns a 50% stake.

The latest addition has increased the IRPL project’s commissioned capacity to 400 MW.

The project is scheduled to begin commercial operations on September 17, 2025.

NTPC Green’s renewable energy capacity reached 7,373 MW after the latest part commissioning.

In August, NTPC Green awarded VSL Renewable Services an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for 810 MW of its 1,864 MW solar project capacity in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The O&M will be for a period of 36 months. The tender was floated in January 2025.

In the same month, the company invited bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of 80 MW/320 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Kerala State Electricity Board’s Pothencode and Sreekantapuram substations.

It issued an EPC expression of interest to set up 5 MW ground-mounted solar projects with a 4 MW/12 MWh BESS and a floating solar project of up to 20 MW in the Great Nicobar Island.

NTPC Green also invited bids to deploy a qualified coordinating agency for forecasting, scheduling, and aggregation services at a 296 MW solar power project in Fategarh, Uttar Pradesh.
