JSW Neo Energy (JSW Energy), Juniper Green Energy, BN Peak Power-1 (BrightNight), and Avaada Energy have won Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company’s (MSEDCL) auction to supply 500 MW of wind-solar hybrid power on a long-term basis from grid-connected intrastate projects with an additional greenshoe option of up to 500 MW.

JSW Neo and Juniper Green quoted ₹3.60 (~$0.0431)/kWh to win 200 and 75 MW, respectively.

BN Peak Power won 76 MW at a tariff of ₹3.62 (~$0.0434)/kWh.

Avaada Energy won 75 MW out of the quoted capacity of 500 MW at a tariff of ₹3.69 (~$0.0442)/kWh under the bucket-filling method.

MSEDCL's 500 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Projects Auction Result

The tender was floated in March this year.

According to the tender, hybrid power projects must comprise two components – one solar and one wind power project. The rated installed project capacity of either of the two components should be at least 33% of the contracted capacity.

The minimum project size of a single hybrid power project for inter-state projects should be 50 MW and above at one site, and for intra-state projects, it should be 10 MW and above at one site.

The tender had specified that winners could offer hybrid power projects that are in progress, awaiting commissioning, or already commissioned but lacking a long-term power purchase agreement with any agency and selling power on a short-term or merchant basis.

The wind turbines used in the projects must be type-certified models listed in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The solar photovoltaic modules used in the projects must be included in MNRE’s List-I under the Approved Models and Manufacturers of Solar Photovoltaic Modules.

MSEDCL issued the highest capacity of tenders at 7.4 GW, accounting for 24.1% of the total tendered capacity in the first quarter of 2024, according to Mercom India Research data.
