The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has expanded the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) by adding 2,094 MW of solar module capacity.

The cumulative module manufacturing capacity under ALMM now stands at 58,422 MW.

SAEL Solar P6 (SAEL Solar) contributed 2,065 MW, and Grew Energy contributed 29 MW to the added capacity.

The updated list removed ITI, Jyotitech Solar, SunField Energy, and Suryakamal Energy and delisted their capacities.

Ganesh Green Bharat, with an enlisted capacity of 131 MW; Unique Sun Power, with an enlisted capacity of 43 MW and 200 MW applied capacity; and Credence Solar Panels, with 500 MW enlisted capacity and 500 MW applied capacity, have been added to the provisional list.

Waaree Energies, Tata Power Solar, Adani Solar, Renew, and FS India Solar Ventures each have an enlisted capacity exceeding 3 GW. They contribute 28,789 MW, or 49.27%, of the total cumulative module manufacturing capacity under ALMM.

After putting it on hold for a year, the ministry reimposed the ALMM mandate on April 1, 2024. Only modules from the ALMM must be used in projects that receive government subsidies. However, for projects where the solar modules were received at the project site by March 31, 2024, but could not be commissioned by that day due to reasons beyond the control of the project developer, the ministry will review such cases.

According to Mercom India Research’s State of Solar PV Manufacturing in India 1H 2024 Report, India added 11.3 GW of solar modules and 2 GW of cell manufacturing capacity in the first half of 2024. The capacity additions were driven by a robust solar project pipeline of 132.7 GW planned between 2024 and 2026 and the reinstatement of the ALMM order.

India added 14.9 GW of solar capacity in 1H 2024, a 282% year-over-year increase, according to Mercom India Research’s Q2 2024 India Solar Market Update.
