Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order to build a grid-connected 185 MW solar power project with 254 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bihar’s Lakshisarai district from the Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL).

The tender for the project was floated last December.

The tender had specified that the BESS must be set up to deliver a maximum power of 45.4 MW for four hours.

Out of total solar power generation, 80% of power must be directly injected/evacuated to the grid, and 20% will be used for BESS charging.

L&T will also be responsible for a ten-year operation and maintenance commitment.

The company said the project will help Bihar execute its renewable energy strategy, address the escalating demand, and combat climate change.

The energy storage system will be crucial in optimizing energy usage by storing excess solar energy during periods of low demand and releasing it during peak demand hours. It will mitigate fluctuations in power generation, regulate frequency, and provide voltage support to the grid. The system’s black start capability ensures rapid re-energization post-outage, enhancing grid reliability.

The company recently won the engineering procurement and construction contract for the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s 100 MW floating solar power project to be set up at Getalsud Dam in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
