Hyderabad-based Jayram Industries India (JIIPL) has been awarded a contract by Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) for operating and maintaining a 65 MW solar power project located in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, for 19 months.

The tender was floated in May 2023 by BHEL for the project, which is owned by NLC India. The tender received technical bids from nine companies, of which four qualified for financial bids, and the contract was awarded to Jayram Industries.

The turnkey service provider will be responsible for hiring maintenance personnel to perform tasks such as solar panel cleaning, vegetation removal, outer yard HT maintenance, and transformer oil filtration.

According to the tender, the JIIPL should erect and commission all the equipment and auxiliaries per the sequence and methodology prescribed by BHEL, depending on the technical requirements.

It also specified that if JIIPL fails to maintain the required progress of work, which results in a delay in the completion of the work, BHEL will have the right to impose liquidated damages at the rate of 0.5% of the contract value per week of delay or part thereof, subject to a maximum of 10% of the contract value.

According to the company, the project represents the largest undertaking for JIIPL in terms of comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) work.

JIIPL has set a goal of achieving a cumulative O&M portfolio of 500 MW by 2024.

For the current year, JIIPL has set a target to undertake cumulative EPC works of 30 MW throughout the country.

The company’s customer base comprises prestigious organizations such as the Airport Authority of India, India SME Technology Services, Indian Railways, NTPC, NLC, Singareni Collieries Company, BHEL, and various private developers.

In March, BHEL invited bids for the O&M of 100 MW solar projects for the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation at Raghanesda solar park for ten years.

Earlier, BHEL invited bids for the O&M of 12.5 MW of solar projects installed at its Trichy facility for one year.
