HLL Lifecare, a government-owned healthcare products manufacturer, has installed a 1 MW rooftop solar system at its premises in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability while reducing power costs.
The project, executed by Wattsun Energy, uses Rayzon 540 Wp mono PERC solar modules and Sungrow 125 kW string inverters. For HLL, the primary motivation to go solar was a combination of reducing energy costs and reinforcing their commitment to sustainability.
The project not only promises significant long-term energy savings but also aligns with the organization’s vision of adopting greener practices and lowering its carbon footprint.
Before the project, HLL Lifecare had an average daily energy consumption of about 29,062 units. With the solar system now operational, the company expects to save nearly ₹100 million annually (~$113,545), with a payback period of just five years.
Installation posed several challenges. One of the main challenges was dealing with multiple roof types on one of the city’s oldest buildings. To address this, Wattsun adopted specially designed raised mounting structures that offered above-average elevation, ensuring uniformity and stability across varying roof conditions. This unique design approach allowed the company to overcome structural complexities while optimizing module placement for maximum generation.
“HLL solar project stands out as an example of switching to solar isn’t just about saving the planet—it’s about powering your business with lower costs, higher efficiency, and a competitive edge that shines brighter every day,” said Terance Alex, Founder and CEO at WattSun Energy.
Commercial and industrial (C&I) entities, large institutions, and residential apartment buildings are all seeking clean energy solutions at a lower cost than traditional grid power tariffs. Rooftop solar, being the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly energy source, presents an attractive option for C&I businesses aiming to reduce their operating expenses.
Mercom India hosts a multicity ‘C&I Clean Energy Meet’ series designed to provide C&I energy buyers with the knowledge and tools they need to adopt clean energy solutions and lower their power costs. The next Clean Energy Meet event will be held in Jaipur on September 19, 2025.
