Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has set price ceilings of €0.0725 (~$0.085)/kWh for onshore wind and €0.1 (~$0.12)/kWh for rooftop solar project auctions being held in 2026.
The price determinations will also apply to the auctions closing on February 1, 2026.
According to Klaus Müller, President at Bundesnetzagentur, the new price ceilings create a framework to enable a large number of bidders to take part in the auctions.
Bundesnetzagentur said these price ceilings are slightly lower than those set for 2025. They account for the decrease in the forecasted levelized electricity costs and the latest auction rounds’ results. Without the latest determination, the price ceilings would revert to significantly lower limits set in the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). These prices would not have been adequate for most of the onshore wind and solar projects.
The federal network agency did not set any price ceilings for ground-mounted solar or the innovation auctions to be held in 2026. The EEG ceilings will apply to these auctions.
Price ceilings for each ground-mounted solar auction will be based on the ceiling set in the preceding three auction rounds. Innovation auctions will have a ceiling price of €0.0713 (~$835.04)/kWh.
The agency said it will examine whether setting ceiling prices for 2026’s biomass and biomethane auctions will be necessary at the beginning of next year.
Recently, Bundesnetzagentur awarded a combined 1.09 GW of capacity in its latest auctions for solar installations on buildings and noise barriers, and biomass plants. Of the total capacity, 813 MW was awarded to biomass facilities and 281 MW to rooftop and noise-barrier solar projects.
In October this year, the agency invited bids for 2.32 GW of solar projects for which financial support under the Renewable Energy Sources Act will be available.
Germany added 4.3 GW of solar capacity in the third quarter of 2025, a 7.8% year-over-year increase from 4 GW.
