Germany’s Federal Network Agency, Bundesnetzagentur, has awarded 2.52 GW of onshore wind capacity in its latest auction.

The agency received 461 bids totaling 5.25 GW against an auction volume of 2.52 GW. It awarded 237 bids totaling 2.523 GW and excluded 17 bids from the auction process.

The successful bid prices ranged from €0.0449 ($0.053)/kWh to €0.0498 ($0.059)/kWh. The volume-weighted average award price was €0.0479 ($0.057)/kWh, down from €0.0506 ($0.060)/kWh in the previous auction round.

The tender was floated in June this year.

The Federal Network Agency said the auction remained significantly oversubscribed despite a decline in the overall bid volume. Agency President Klaus Müller said the level of competition was reflected in the continued decline in award prices.

Lower Saxony accounted for the largest share of awarded capacity, with 81 successful bids totaling 836 MW. North Rhine-Westphalia followed with 42 awards totaling 430 MW, while Rhineland-Palatinate received 17 awards representing 336 MW.

The Bundesnetzagentur conducts auctions to determine financial support for onshore wind projects under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act.

The award value from successful bids serves as the basis for calculating the market premium. The agency has set the ceiling tariff for onshore wind auctions in 2026 at €0.0725 ($0.086)/kWh.

The August round had an actual auction volume of approximately 2.52 GW.  The next auction will be is scheduled to close for bids on November 1, 2026.

In June this year, the Bundesnetzagentur announced the winners of its 2.5 GW onshore wind auction. The winning tariffs ranged from €0.0444 (~$0.05)/kWh to €0.0519 (~$0.059)/kWh. The volume-weighted average winning bid stood at €0.0506 (~$0.058)/kWh.

In n January, Bundesnetzagentur awarded 3,456 MW of offshore wind capacity in its latest auction round, exceeding the originally tendered volume of 3,450 MW.
