Germany’s Federal Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded 2,341 MW of solar projects in its latest 2,328 MW auction.

These projects comprise ground-mounted solar projects and solar projects built on structures that are neither buildings nor noise barriers.

The auction received 634 bids totalling 5,247 MW, of which 262 qualified.

The winning bids ranged between €0.044 (~$0.052)/kWh and €0.053 (~$0.062)/kWh.

The average volume-weighted winning bid was €0.05 (~$0.0593)/kWh, slightly above the previous round of €0.0484 (~$0.057)/kWh.

Most of the solar projects awarded under this auction were located on the verge of highways or railway lines, comprising 125 contracts totalling 1,150 MW.

The second-highest volume of contracts comprised 88 solar projects totalling 874 MW on arable or grassland in disadvantaged areas, meaning areas with limited agricultural use.

Another 30 contracts were issued for special solar installations totalling 204 MW, where agricultural activity and electricity generation take place simultaneously.

Region-wise, the largest number of contracts were for sites in Bavaria, totalling 901 MW (112 contracts), followed by Saxony-Anhalt, totalling 282 MW (24 contracts), and Brandenburg, totalling 216 MW (16 contracts).

Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, said that after two tenders with declining numbers of bids, this round saw more than twice as many bids submitted as in the previous round.

He said that the high participation in this round was indicative of the attractiveness of the framework conditions.

The next first-segment solar tender closes March 1, 2026.

Germany added 16.4 GW of solar capacity in 2025, up 1.2% year over year and setting a new record. The country added 16.2 GW of solar capacity in 2024. Recent solar additions increased Germany’s cumulative solar capacity to 117 GW.

Last year, the Federal Network Agency invited bids for 282.72 MW of solar power projects under its latest tender for installations on buildings and noise barriers.
