Rajasthan-based smart metering solutions and service provider Genus Power has deployed 10 million smart meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) across nine states.
Under RDSS, India aims to replace 250 million conventional meters with smart meters by 2028.
In addition, another 15 million meters manufactured by Genus have been deployed through other advanced metering infrastructure service providers and utility partners, taking the total number of Genus smart meters operational in India to 25 million.
To support this scale, the company has expanded its manufacturing capabilities through facilities in Kotputli, Jaipur, Haridwar, and Guwahati.
Jitendra Kumar Agarwal, Joint Managing Director at Genus Power, said, “Crossing the 10 million smart meter mark is a defining moment for Genus Power. RDSS represents the largest smart metering rollouts globally, and this milestone reflects the sector’s clear shift toward system resilience and execution at scale.”
The company is also expanding globally across Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and SAARC markets, offering end-to-end smart energy solutions spanning hardware, software, and infrastructure services.
Recently, Genus signed a share purchase agreement to acquire the remaining 86.49% stake in Newlectric Innovation, a smart meter manufacturer. Genus already held 13.5% of Newlectric’s equity shares.
In 2024, the company’s subsidiary was awarded smart meter contracts worth ₹29.26 billion (~$348.6 million). It included deploying approximately 3.75 million smart prepaid meters and system meters, along with distribution transformer meters for energy accounting on a design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer basis.
As of November 15, 2025, the Ministry of Power reported that 47.6 million smart meters have been installed across the country so far under various programs, while 203.3 million meters have been approved under the RDSS, based on proposals submitted by the states. Bihar, with 8,237,246 smart meters, Maharashtra (7,398,415), and Uttar Pradesh (6,506,420) are the top three states with the most smart meters installed.
