G R Infra Acquires 1.5 GW Tumkur Renewable Energy Transmission Project
The project must be completed in 24 months
REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over Tumkur-II REZ Power Transmission to G R Infraprojects (GRIL) to evacuate 1.5 GW of power from the Tumkur Renewable Energy Zone in Karnataka.
GRIL emerged as the transmission service provider in the tariff-based competitive bidding process conducted by RECPDCL. The project will be executed on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis.
The project involves the establishment of a 400/220 kV, 4 X 500 MVA pooling station near Tumkur and 27.2 km of a 400 kV line along with associated works.
The project should be completed within 24 months from handover.
The scope of work covers the establishment, operation, and maintenance of the project and the completion of all the activities for the project, including survey, detailed project report formulation, arranging finance, project management, necessary consents, clearances and permits, land compensation, design, engineering, equipment, material, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning.
Tumkur REZ will be integrated with the existing Tumkur (Pavagada) PS through Tumkur-II PS – Tumkur (Pavagada) 400 kV (Quad ACSR moose) D/C line.
Out of the 86 GW renewable energy potential identified in the Southern Region, Karnataka accounts for 17 GW. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has indicated that a transmission system to evacuate a capacity of about 11 GW may be identified.
Recently, the RECPDCL handed over the Khavda IVA Power Transmission to Adani Energy Solutions to evacuate 7 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park.
It also handed over Bhadla-III Power Transmission to Power Grid Corporation of India at a cost of ₹64.2 million (~$765,151). The project involved developing an additional 20 GW transmission system to evacuate power from Bhadla-III PS as part of the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone Phase-III.
RECPDCL recently invited bids to select a transmission service provider to establish an inter-state transmission system to evacuate 3.5 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s renewable energy zones.
