India’s total Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity reached 219.1 MWh as of March 2024, according to Mercom India Research’s newly released report, India’s Energy Storage Landscape. According to the report, 1.6 GWh (~1 GW) of standalone BESS, 9.7 GW of renewable energy projects with energy storage, and 78.1 GW of pumped hydro projects were in various stages of development (60 GW under survey and investigation, and 18.1 GW under development) as of March 2024.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has expanded the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) by adding 2,674 MW of new solar module capacity. The cumulative module manufacturing capacity under ALMM now stands at 50,675 MW. Emmvee Photovoltaic Power accounted for 1,509 MW of the newly added capacity, while Insolation Energy contributed 187 MW. The other additions include Citizen Solar (80 MW), Credence Solar (375 MW), Gautam Solar (391 MW), and Redren Energy (6 MW).

Kosuke Service, NRGY 6, Lords Mark Industries, KLK Ventures, G P Edible Foods, HFM Solar, OMC Power were declared winners in Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency’s (UPNEDA) auction to set up 500 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar projects on government/semi-government buildings and other institutions in Uttar Pradesh under the RESCO model on a net metering basis. The discovered tariff for projects ranging from 25 kW up to 200 kW in Category 1 is ₹4.9 (~$0.0587)/kWh, the tariff for projects from 200 kW to 2,000 kW in Category 2 is ₹4.85 (~$0.0581)/kWh.
