Daily News Wrap-Up: Tata Power Solar to Build a 95 MW Solar Project for GSECL

NTPC commissions a 140 MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh

Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:

Tata Power Solar has received a ‘Letter of Award’ to build a 95 MW of ground-mounted solar project for Gujarat State Electricity Corporation. The commercial operation date for the project is set for April 2022. The project’s order value is around ₹4.6 billion (~$63 million).).

NTPC has commissioned the 140 MW Bilhaur solar project at Bilhaur, Uttar Pradesh. With this commissioning, NTPC and NTPC Group have 51.31 GW and 63.92 GW of commercial solar capacity, respectively.

ThomasLloyd has announced that SolarArise India Projects has commissioned a 75 MW of solar project in Uttar Pradesh. The project, located in Khera Village, Badaun District, Uttar Pradesh, is expected to provide clean energy to over 100,000 people in northern India. The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. In 2018, ThomasLloyd invested in SolarArise alongside the Global Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund.

AES Corporation, a U.S.-based power distribution company, has commenced operations of the Alamitos battery energy storage system. The system is expected to provide up to 400 MWh of clean energy to Southern California Edison consumers. The project has a 20-year PPA with Southern California Edison.

Volvo Group has created a new business area called Volvo Energy to strengthen its business flow of batteries over the lifecycle and the customer offer for charging infrastructure. Volvo Energy will provide batteries and charging solutions to the Volvo Group’s other businesses and provide remanufactured and refurbished batteries to consumers for use across different applications. Volvo Energy will also carry the group’s responsibility for hydrogen infrastructure solutions for fuel cell electric vehicles.

Baywa r.e. and HeidelbergCement have signed a 10-year PPA for the Witnica solar park in Poland. The 64.6 MW solar park is developed by Baywa r.e. and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021. Over the next five years, Baywa r.e. has set the goal of constructing solar and wind projects in Poland with a total installed capacity of over 1 GW.

Risen Energy, a China-based solar module manufacturer, has entered into a strategic investment agreement with Flat Glass Group, a China-based photovoltaic glass manufacturer, to procure 234 million square meters or 34 GW worth of rolled glass between 2021 and 2023. The estimated contract value is around 8.908 billion Chinese Yuan (~$1.37 billion).
