Solar continued to dominate India’s renewable energy capacity additions in the third quarter (Q3) of 2026. India’s installed solar capacity reached 174.8 GW, representing 31.1% of the country’s total power capacity and 57.7% of its renewable energy mix. This marked an increase of 6.7% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) and 39.7% year-over-year (YoY).

According to Prashant Mathur, Chief Executive Officer at Saatvik Green Energy, the changing implementation timelines for domestic solar manufacturing requirements have complicated investment planning for manufacturers.

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission proposed increasing the state’s Renewable Purchase Obligation to 43.33% by the financial year (FY) 2030, from 35.95% in FY 2027.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) adopted tariffs of ₹6.27 (~$0.0659)/kWh and ₹6.28 (~$0.0660)/kWh for 1,200 MW of renewable energy projects with energy storage systems awarded by the Solar Energy Corporation of India under its firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE-VII) tender.

CERC proposed including pumped storage projects as an eligible category in the High Price-Day Ahead Market (HP-DAM) segment on power exchanges. The proposal follows recommendations from the National Load Despatch Centre and the Ministry of Power to include pumped storage projects in the HP-DAM eligibility list.

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam invited bids under the Ministry of Home Affairs to install grid-connected rooftop solar projects in West Bengal and Bihar. The total capacity will be 7,055 kW, to be installed at 33 locations, including Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, and Central Reserve Police Force establishments across the two states.

Renewable energy infrastructure company Mecpower Solutions and solar module manufacturer Navitas Solar announced plans to jointly establish a 5 GWh battery energy storage system manufacturing (BESS) facility in Karjan, Gujarat.

Solar module manufacturer Waaree Energies reported revenue from operations of ₹75.18 billion (~$783.13 million) in Q2 FY 2027, a 23.9% YoY increase from ₹60.66 billion (~$631.88 million).
