Solar power accounted for 26.5% of India’s total installed power capacity and 52.7% of the total installed renewable energy capacity as of December 2025. Solar installations rose 8.8% quarter-over-quarter and 39.6% year-over-year (YoY). India’s renewable energy capacity, including large hydroelectric projects, reached 258.3 GW by the end of the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025, accounting for 50.2% of the country’s total installed power capacity, based on data from the Central Electricity Authority, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker.

Global silver prices crashed at the end of last week, ending a sustained six-month rally driven by demand, safe-haven buying, and inventory dips in China. In one of the worst single-day falls in history, spot silver prices plunged by up to 37% across global markets on January 30, 2026. Silver futures fared slightly better, plummeting about 30%.

Shreyas Sortex  Industries won NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam’s auction to set up a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kerala. The BESS will have to be installed at the 220 kV Brahmapuram substation in Kochi, with an interconnection at the 220 kV voltage level within the jurisdiction of Kerala State Electricity Board. Shreyas Sortex Industries won the 250 MW/500 MWh contract with a tariff of ₹181,000 (~$1,973)/MW/month.

Engineering Projects India issued an expression of interest for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 250 MW grid-connected solar project in Rajasthan. The project is proposed to be developed near the 220 kV Bikaner-IV substation at Ambaran in Rajasthan, with interconnection at the 220 kV level. Bids must be submitted by February 7, 2026. Bids will be opened on February 9.

Surat-based renewable solutions provider, KPI Green Energy, commenced power generation and supply from its 200 MW grid-connected solar power project at the 1.8 GW Gujarat State Electricity Corporation’s Solar Park (South Block) in Khavda. The project was awarded by the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam.

Electric vehicle-maker Tesla reported a revenue of $24.9 billion, down 3% YoY in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared to 25.7 billion. The decline was driven primarily by lower vehicle deliveries, partly offset by growth in energy generation and storage, and services revenue. The automotive revenue declined 11% YoY to $17.7 billion. In contrast, energy generation and storage revenue rose 25% YoY, while services and other revenue increased 18% YoY. This was the result of higher deployments across all regions and continued strength in demand for both Megapack and Powerwall.

Solar cell and module manufacturer Websol Energy System’s revenue increased 77.2% YoY to ₹2.61 billion (~$28.51 million) from ₹1.47 billion (~$16.05 million) in the third quarter of the financial year 2026. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization stood at ₹1.06 billion (~$11.58 million), up 57.6% YoY from ₹680 million (~$7.43 million).

Public infrastructure finance company REC’s revenue from operations increased by 10% to ₹446.41 billion (~$4.87 billion) against ₹407.52 billion (~$4.45 billion) in the first nine months of the financial year 2025-26. For the period ended December 31, 2025, REC’s net profit stood at ₹129.2 billion (~$1.41 billion), up 13% from ₹114.77 billion (~$1.25 billion) in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The company attributed the growth to higher electricity trading volumes. Profit after tax stood at ₹1.19 billion (~$12.99 million), up 11% from ₹1.07 billion (~$11.71 million) in the year-ago quarter. Electricity volumes traded on the exchange during Q3 FY 2026 reached 34.1 billion units, representing a growth of 11.9% YoY.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) held that the clean energy subsidies introduced by the U.S. under the Inflation Reduction Act are inconsistent with its agreements and has called for their rollback by October 1, 2026. In a ruling on a trade dispute brought by China, the WTO upheld all of China’s claims regarding investment tax credits and production tax credits for renewable energy projects.
