Engie Energy India, NLC India Renewables, RPIL Power Three (Rays Power Infra), and Oriana Power won Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) Tranche XXI auction to set up 1,200 MW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar projects integrated with 600 MW/3,600 MWh energy storage systems. Engie Energy India and NLC India Renewables won 200 MW and 600 MW, respectively, at a quoted tariff of ₹3.12 (~$0.0346)/kWh. RPIL Power Three quoted a tariff of ₹3.13 (~$0.0347)/kWh to win 300 MW. Oriana Power quoted 300 MW to win 100 MW under the bucket-filling method at a tariff of ₹3.13 (~$0.0347)/kWh.

PM Green, wholly owned subsidiary of Hyderabad-based Power Mech Projects, won West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company’s (WBSEDCL) auction to set up 250 MW/1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Goaltore substation, Paschim Midnapore. The company pegged revenue generation from the project at ₹15.63 billion (~$173.55 million). Since it also received the greenshoe capacity for an additional 250 MW/1,000 MWh to be established at the Durgapur Projects campus, the total potential revenue would rise to ₹31.26 billion (~$347.08 million).

The Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) won REC Power Development and Consultancy’s auction to establish an ISTS to integrate 250 MW of renewable energy at Davanagere and 2.75 GW at Bellary in Karnataka. The projects must be completed within 24 months. The tender was floated in September 2025. Apart from POWERGRID, Adani Energy Solutions, HG Infra Engineering, and Resonia also qualified in the technical bid round.

The White House announced that the U.S. will end funding and withdraw from 35 non-United Nations (UN) international and 31 UN organizations, including bodies focusing on clean energy and climate change, that the administration claims are contrary to the country’s interests. Notably, the U.S. will withdraw from the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact, the International Renewable Energy Agency, the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century, UN Energy, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the India-led International Solar Alliance.

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam invited bids to install 7,000 kW of grid-connected rooftop solar systems at National Aluminium Company’s Angul and Damanjodi facilities in Odisha. Bidders must also submit an operations and maintenance (O&M) performance guarantee amount equivalent to 10% of the O&M contract price. The systems must be installed within nine months of receiving the work order. The selected installer must handle the system’s O&M duties for five years.

The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council invited proposals for pilot projects to produce green hydrogen using biomass-based or other innovative technologies. The last day to submit the proposals is January 27, 2026. The call for proposals allocates ₹1 billion (~$11.09 million) in central financial assistance for these pilots, with support capped at ₹250 million (~$2.77 million)/project. Selected bidders can receive up to 100% of the total equipment cost of ₹250 million (~$2.77 million)/project.

Industries are gradually moving toward solar power as the cost of conventional power puts a heavy burden on them. Switching to solar helps them reduce operational costs and make them more sustainable. Recently, Agarwal Industries, a textile manufacturer in Bijainagar, Rajasthan, installed a 302-kW rooftop solar project. Agarwal Industries was incurring over ₹20 million (~$222,410) in electricity expenses annually. The project is expected to save approximately ₹2.8 million in electricity costs. The project is expected to generate approximately 380,000 units of clean electricity annually.

Indore-based electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure company ROADGRID raised ₹120 million (~$1.44 million) in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Venture Catalysts. The round also saw participation from a mix of strategic and angel investors, including the Skyline Group of Companies, Inflection Point Ventures, FAAD Network, Let’s Venture, Pace Group, Arthanomics, and Alpha Value. ROADGRID has raised a total of $1.33 million in funding, including the latest Pre-Series A round. The funding will be used to scale the deployment of universal EV chargers across different vehicle segments, expand public and commercial charging networks, and strengthen its technology platform.

China’s National Intellectual Property Administration and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a guidance document to further strengthen intellectual property protection in the solar industry.
