JERC approves purchase of 100 MW of solar power

NTPC Green Energy invited expressions of interest (EoI) to develop a 5 MW solar project and a 4 MW/12 MWh battery energy storage system in Great Nicobar Island. This EoI is open to any Indian company, its consortium, affiliates, or representatives. Bids must be submitted by April 18, 2025. Bids will be opened on April 24. Selected bidders must conduct a detailed study to assess the island’s energy requirements, evaluate the existing transmission system, and determine the optimal capacity for the renewable energy project and the necessary energy storage.

The Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission  approved the power sale agreement between Bokaro Steel, a Steel Authority of India company, and Solar Energy Corporation of India for purchasing 100 MW of solar power. The Commission also noted that the interstate transmission system charges will not be applicable on the power purchase if the project is commissioned by June 30, 2025, under the CERC Regulation, 2023.

The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam invited expressions of interest for 7 MW solar power projects under component-A of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan program. The scope of work entails installations of decentralized ground/stilt-mounted grid-connected solar power projects on barren/ uncultivable and agricultural land within a 5 km radius of substations.

Avaada Group inaugurated a 1.5 GW solar module manufacturing gigafactory in Dadri, Noida. It also laid the foundation for a 5 GW solar manufacturing unit at Ecotech, Greater Noida. The company said its 1.5 GW manufacturing plant specializes in tunnel oxide passivated contact N-Type bifacial glass-to-glass solar modules, incorporating multi-bus bar configurations (16 to 24 bus bars) to maximize efficiency. The plant can produce M10 and G12 cells, with an annual capacity of 1.2 GW for M10 and 1.5 GW for G12 modules and is currently producing 5,800 modules daily.

Specialty chemical manufacturing company Jubilant Ingrevia will procure ~54 million units of power annually for its manufacturing facility in Gujarat from O2 Power’s wind-solar hybrid power project. The power for its manufacturing facility in the special economic zone in Bharuch will be procured on a third-party open access model from an interstate transmission connected, co-located, wind-solar hybrid project in Maharashtra.

Pune-based energy storage solutions provider AmpereHour Energy has secured $5 million (₹415 million) in a Series A funding round led by Avaana Capital, with participation from UC Impower and existing angel investors. The company will utilize the funds to accelerate its battery energy storage solutions deployment, enhance manufacturing capabilities, expand product offerings, and strengthen research and development efforts. It will also use the funds to scale its operations.

Singapore-based multinational banking and financial services corporation DBS Bank ceased financing new coal mining or thermal coal power assets. DBS said in its Sustainability Report 2024 that it will also stop funding existing clients who derive 50% of their revenue from thermal coal by January 2026.
