The average system cost of large-scale solar projects declined across most module technologies during the second quarter (Q2) of the calendar year 2026. Quarterly movements remained relatively narrow, and the overall cost structure was largely unchanged, with Chinese module-based projects remaining the most cost-competitive and projects mandated to use domestic-content-requirement modules at the higher end.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) tweaked the deviation settlement framework for future wind and solar projects by bringing them under the same rules as those applicable to general sellers.
As renewable energy capacity expands and curtailment risks increase, transmission infrastructure is becoming central to India’s energy transition. The grid urgently needs to be redesigned to accommodate the variability of renewable generation, ensuring system stability, reliable power evacuation, and efficient integration of new capacity.
Nearly 248 GW of power grid connectivity and General Network Access granted to renewable energy and storage projects are expected to become effective between August 2026 and 2031.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India invited bids from developers to use a 50 MW/100 MWh (50 MW x 2 hrs.) standalone energy storage system on a short-term basis. The last date to submit bids is October 5, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.
