India imported solar cells and modules valued at $1.26 billion (~₹119.41 billion) in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, up 50.3% year-over-year (YoY) compared to $839.49 million (~₹71.85 billion), according to data from the Department of Commerce.
As India’s rooftop solar market expands, the quality of balance-of-system (BoS) components and installation practices is becoming increasingly important to project performance. Failures involving connectors, cables, isolators, mounting structures, earthing systems, and electrical protection equipment can lead to generation losses, repeated maintenance, equipment damage, and safety risks.

The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) governing the banking of power by green energy open access consumers in the state. The SOP allows eligible consumers to bank surplus renewable energy monthly and utilize it during the following two months, creating a rolling three-month banking cycle.
PFC Consulting invited bids to set up an intra-state transmission system for the 400 kV Bhojrajka (Khushkhera) grid substation in Rajasthan, along with the associated transmission system. Bids must be submitted by October 16, 2026.
Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation invited expressions of interest to set up a 150 MW floating solar project with at least 75 MW/150 MWh of battery energy storage system on the reservoir surface of Mula Major Dam on a public-private partnership basis in the state’s Ahilyanagar district. Bids must be submitted by September 10, 2026.
GAIL (India) invited bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction of approximately 1.2 MW of additional solar capacity at its existing 5 MW solar project in Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The last date to submit bids is September 14, 2026.
Coal India invited bids for a rupee term loan of ₹7.13 billion (~$74.55 million) to develop a 187.5 MW/750 MWh standalone battery energy storage system project in Choutuppal, Telangana. The last date to submit the bids is September 10, 2026.
Hindustan Power achieved financial closure for its 435 MW solar project in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh after securing ₹11.35 billion (~$113.5 million) in debt financing from Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).
Aditya Birla Renewables, the renewable energy arm of the Aditya Birla Group secured a $1.6 billion (~₹153.08 billion) term loan facility from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group for its proposed acquisition of Solenergi Power, which includes the Sprng Energy group of companies.
Government-owned lender IREDA posted revenue from operations of ₹22.5 billion (~$235.2 million) in Q1 of the financial year 2027, up 15% YoY compared with ₹19.48 billion (~$203.6 million).
