Crompton Greaves Consumer Electronics has secured a supply order worth ₹515.9 million (~$5.8 million) for solar modules, inverters, and AC and DC distribution boxes for rooftop projects within Telangana.
This is the company’s first supply order for the rooftop solar segment.
Crompton said its entry into solar rooftops is part of its broader strategy to significantly expand its total addressable market from its current range of ₹750 billion (~$8.4 billion) to ₹1 trillion (~$11.26 billion), ultimately aiming to reach ₹2 trillion (~$22.5 billion).
In its bourse filing, Crompton noted solar pumps and rooftops segment collectively represents an opportunity of ₹400 billion (~$4.5 billion) to ₹500 billion (~$5.6 billion) for the company.
According to Promeet Ghosh, Managing Director and CEO at Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, the rooftop solar sector alone holds a potential of ₹200 billion (~$2.25 billion) to ₹250 billion (~$2.8 billion).
Crompton primarily manufactures fans and residential water pumps.
According to Mercom India’s Q2 2025 India Rooftop Solar Market Report, India added 2.8 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first half (1H) of 2025. The installations grew 158% year-over-year.
The installation growth in 1H and Q2 of 2025 was mostly driven by the clearance of delayed registrations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the commissioning of new systems, and enhancements to the PM Surya Ghar portal.
In August 2025, the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission issued regulations for grid-interactive rooftop solar, introducing a comprehensive framework governing metering for consumers in the state.
According to the rules, consumers across categories are permitted to install rooftop solar systems under net metering up to 500 kW. However, existing consumers who already have systems exceeding 500 kW can take advantage of net metering benefits.
In September 2025, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced that the government had approved a power utility-led model under the Surya Ghar program.
