Pune-based CIE Automotive India will procure power from two captive solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 8.3 MW being developed by AMPIN Energy in Maharashtra for its manufacturing facilities at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Pune.

The projects are being set up through special-purpose vehicles (SPVs), AMPIN Energy C&I Thirty One and AMPIN Energy C&I Thirty Two.

AMP Energy C&I Thirty One is developing a captive solar power project of approximately 3.3 MW to supply electricity to CIE Aluminium Casting India’s manufacturing facility at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

To qualify as a captive consumer, CIE Aluminium Casting India (CIEALCAST), a wholly owned subsidiary of CIE Automotive India, completed its equity investment in the SPV in two tranches.

The second project, developed by AMPIN Energy C&I Thirty Two, involves a 5 MW captive solar project. The project will supply power to CIE Automotive India’s forgings facility at Chakan, Pune.

CIE Automotive completed its equity investment in the SPV through two tranches.

CIE India has made significant progress in renewable energy deployment as part of its sustainability strategy. It currently operates a captive renewable power capacity of 98.68 MW, primarily comprising wind energy projects, and has installed an additional 6.74 MW of rooftop solar capacity across its manufacturing facilities.

During calendar year 2024, the company generated 155.60 million units of green energy from its captive wind and rooftop solar plants. As a result, renewable sources accounted for 57% to 58% of the company’s total energy consumption during the year.

The company is committed to achieving 100% renewable energy consumption by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. Renewable energy’s share in total consumption is expected to increase steadily beyond the current approximately 58% level.

In 2024, CIE announced it would procure power from ReNew Green‘s 7.8 MW captive solar power project.

AMPIN Energy has a total portfolio of 5 GW of renewable energy projects across 23 states in India. The company has a 2 GW late-stage project pipeline, is targeting a total capacity of 25 GW by 2030, and has raised over $700 million in equity funding.
