The Chennai Port Authority has floated a tender for a 2 MW grid-connected rooftop solar project at its EXIM godowns in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The project will be implemented across four locations, EXIM Godown 1, 2, 3, and 4, within the Chennai Port Authority premises.
The bids must be submitted by December 31, 2025.
The scope of work includes the site survey, planning, design, engineering, procurement, and supply of equipment, as well as the installation, testing, and commissioning of the projects.
The successful bidder must obtain all statutory approvals, complete civil and electrical works, and ensure grid interconnectivity with the projects.
The scope also includes the operation and maintenance of the project for 25 years from the date of commissioning.
The total installed capacity will be 2 MW, using grid-connected rooftop solar technology based on crystalline silicon modules. The port authority will provide access to the rooftops of the four EXIM godowns.
The project will be connected to the grid at 11 kV, with power stepped up from low voltage through a transformer. Metering will be carried out at the 11 kV side through both a net meter and a generation meter.
Bidders must have completed at least one grid-connected rooftop solar project of not less than 1.6 MW with associated operation and maintenance, or two separate projects of 1 MW each, or three projects of 0.8 MW each.
The power purchase agreement will be valid for 25 years.
The tender specifies a minimum guaranteed annual energy generation of 280,000 units, which the developer must meet over the contract period.
The project must be completed within nine months from the letter of award.
The solar modules must comply with the latest IEC or equivalent BIS standards. Module capacities below 600 Wp cannot be used in the project.
India added a record 4.9 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first nine months of the calendar year 2025. Installations rose nearly 161% compared to nearly 1.9 GW installed in the same period in 2024, according to Mercom India’s Q3 2025 India Rooftop Solar Market Report.
