APM Projects has won Central Mine Planning and Design Institute’s (CMPDI) engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) auction to set up a 10 MW grid-connected solar power project at Lakhanpur, Mahanadi Coalfields.

The company won the project at a contract value of ₹487.33 million (~$5.7 million).

The tender was floated in November 2024.

The project entails the design, engineering, procurement, supply, construction, storage at the site, associated civil works, erection, testing, and commissioning.

Winners must procure all necessary permits and licenses for the project.

The scope of work also covers power evacuation and operation, and maintenance for 10 years.

The project has been proposed to be set up on 15-hectare land located in Kirarama village near Lakhanpur.

The solar project must be installed using at least 550 Wp modules. String inverters of at least 250 kW capacity must be used.

The closest MVA, 132/33 KV Jorabaga central substation, is located 4.2 km from the project.

Solar power must be evacuated at 33 kV through a 33 kV double circuit overhead transmission line raised on a 13-meter rail pole along with an all-aluminum alloy conductor.

CMPDI, a Coal India subsidiary, also awarded Alpex Solar, NVNR Power & Infra consortium, with a 70 MW solar EPC contract. The project will be at Nandan Washery in the Kanhan Area, within the Western Coalfields region of Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Earlier in May, Mahanadi Coalfields invited bids for the EPC of 25 MW of ground-mounted solar power projects at Rampur Colliery and Samaleswari Opencast Project in Odisha.

In November 2024, another subsidiary of Coal India, CIL Navikarniya Urja, issued a tender for the EPC of a 40 MW solar power project at Johilla Area, Umaria, Madhya Pradesh.

Coal India is in the process of implementing a 3 GW solar power program by 2025-26. A total capacity of 398.8 MW will be developed in FY2024, 1,443 MW in FY2025, and 1,158 MW in FY2026.
