Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve (Adani Green Energy), Sprng Vayu Vidyut (Sprng Energy), Illuminate Hybren (Mahindra Susten), and Avaada Energy have won NHPC’s auction to set up 1,200 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects with or without energy storage (Tranche -X).
Adani Renewable Energy won a capacity of 600 MW, Sprng 150 MW, and Illuminate 240 MW at a tariff of ₹3.41 (~$0.0391)/kWh. Avaada won 210 MW out of the 600 MW quoted at a tariff of ₹3.42 (~$0.0392)/kWh.
The tender, floated in December 2024, also provided an additional 1,200 MW greenshoe option.
The hybrid power project will have one solar and one wind component. The rated installed project capacity of either of the components must be at least 33% of the contracted capacity.
According to the tender terms, the solar projects can be set up anywhere in India. The selected bidders can identify and either purchase or lease the project land at their discretion, expense, risk, and responsibility. Only commercially established and operational technologies will be deployed to minimize technology risks and ensure the successful commissioning of the projects.
Only wind turbine models listed in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers and solar modules registered in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers must be used in the projects.
In January, Onix Renewable, Jindal India Renewable Energy, NTPC Renewable Energy, Kolar Solar Power (Rays Power Infra), ReNew Solar Power, and Adani Renewable Energy Holding Nine (Adani Green) were declared winners of NHPC’s auction to set up 1,200 MW solar projects with 600 MW/1,200 MWh energy storage systems.
In January this year, NHPC invited bids to set up rooftop solar projects of a cumulative capacity of 24.22 MW on 245 government buildings in 25 states/union territories under the renewable energy service company model.
