Adani Enterprises becomes the first company to start the construction of a polysilicon and monosilane manufacturing facility to be constructed in Mundra, Gujarat.

State-owned construction and engineering company Engineers India (EIL) has secured an assignment for providing owner’s engineer services for 30,000 MTPA polysilicon and 500 MTPA monosilane project from Mundra Solar Technology, a group company of Adani Enterprises.

Globally, polysilicon production is concentrated outside India, and the country conventionally has been dependent on the import of polysilicon. Polysilicon is the primary component in making photovoltaic panels.

Other companies, like Shirdi Sai Electricals and Reliance New Energy, qualified under the PLI program, are expected to come up with similar polysilicon facilities to aid India in amplifying its domestic manufacturing sector and cutting down on imports.

According to Mercom sources, the manufacturing facility will produce a small quantity of polysilicon capacity mandated under the production-lined incentive (PLI) program, while a large part of the production will contribute to the company’s projects outside the PLI program.

Adani Solar is building a fully integrated and comprehensive 10 GW solar manufacturing ecosystem in Mundra.

The Mundra plant is expected to play host to the entire solar manufacturing ecosystem, from polysilicon to modules, including ancillaries and supporting utilities. The company currently has a solar cell and module manufacturing capacity of 3.5 GW.

Engineers India is a design engineering procurement construction and integrated project management firm primarily focused on India’s oil and gas and petrochemicals industries and internationally.

The assignment would be a step towards realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and would also contribute towards the nation’s target of net zero by 2070, the company said in its exchange filing.

Jinko Solar, Trina Solar, JA Solar, LONGi Solar, and Adani Solar were the leading module suppliers to the Indian solar market in the first half (1H) of the calendar year (CY) 2022, according to Mercom’s recently released India Solar Market Leaderboard 1H 2022.
