Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has won REC Power Development and Consultancy’s (RECPDCL) ₹250 billion (~$2.89 billion) Bhadla-Fatehpur High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project to evacuate 6 GW of renewable energy.
The transmission project is part of a larger program to evacuate an additional 20 GW of renewable power from the renewable energy zones in Rajasthan under Phase III Part I.
AESL won the project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding mechanism, the first project to be awarded to the private sector. RECPDCL was the bid process coordinator
The HVDC project will help evacuate 6 GW of renewable energy from renewable energy zones in Rajasthan beyond Bhadla-III to demand centers in North India and the national grid.
AESL will establish a 6,000 MW 2,400 ckm-long HVDC system with a 7,500 MVA transmission capacity between Bhadla, and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. It will implement the HVDC terminals with 100% power reversal capability.
The build, own, operate, and transfer project must be implemented in four and a half years.
The Bhadla-Fatehpur transmission system is AESL’s third HVDC project after the completed Mundra—Mahendragarh and the under-implementation Aarey-Kudus project.
Power Grid Corporation of India, Sterlite Grid 37, and IndiGrid 2 also qualified in the technical round.
The order expands AESL’s under-execution order book to ₹547.61 billion (~$6.33 billion) and its transmission network to 25,778 ckm and 84,186 MVA transformation capacity.
Last November, Power Finance Corporation transferred its special purpose vehicle Pune-III Transmission to Adani Energy Solutions, which emerged as the successful bidder for the evacuation of 7 GW of power from the potential renewable energy zone in Khavda, Gujarat, under Phase IV, Part D. The transaction was executed for a consideration of ₹187.8 million (~$2.2 million).
In 2023, Adani Group’s subsidiary Adani Energy Solutions obtained financial closure for its $1 billion Green HVDC link project in Mumbai.
