Actis, a growth market investor in sustainable infrastructure, has acquired a 112 MW/518 MWh battery energy storage project in Kozienice, Poland, from DRI.
The Company has also signed an agreement to acquire another 132 MW/623 MWh project in Trzebinia, Poland.
The Kozienice project is ready for construction, while Actis expects to complete the Trzebinia acquisition once the project becomes operational.
The two projects have a combined capacity of 244 MW/1,141 MWh, with storage durations exceeding four hours. Both have secured 17-year inflation-indexed capacity market contracts.
Poland is expected to retire approximately 18 GW of coal-fired power capacity and add 50 GW of renewable energy and 14 GW of gas-fired capacity by 2040, Actis said.
Jaroslava Korpanec, Head of Central & Eastern Europe at Actis, commented: “The CEE region has historically been underinvested in, and the need to drive decarbonization and invest in independent energy supply is, in our view, absolutely crucial. Poland is a major European power market but a carbon-intensive one that needs to transition from coal to renewables while keeping the grid steady. These two projects will help build the grid flexibility required and, in doing so, support Poland in managing its energy transition, energy competitiveness and resilience.”
The transaction is expected to advance Actis’ 1.5 GW wind, solar, and BESS target for new Central & Eastern Europe.
According to Mercom’s recently released 1H 2026 Funding and M&A for Energy Storage report, project acquisition activity accelerated sharply during the first half of 2026, with approximately 14 GW of battery storage capacity changing hands in 63 transactions, compared with 6.1 GW in 31 transactions during the same period in 2025.
In September, ENGIE Zielona Energia, a subsidiary of the French utility company ENGIE that operates as a renewable energy provider and producer in Poland, acquired a special purpose vehicle developing a 438 MW/876 MWh battery energy storage project.
