Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has distributed 90 million LED bulbs under the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) program in the financial year 2015-16.
Under the UJALA program, during FY 2015-16, about 90 million LED bulbs have been distributed by EESL, resulting in an estimated energy saving of 11.719 billion kWh per year, stated Mr. Piyush Goyal, in the Rajya Sabha.
The program is voluntary and runs without any budgetary allocation from the Government of India. More than 225 million consumers have participated in the UJALA program, so far, according to Ministry of Power.
The UJALA program was launched in 2015, with the target of replacing 770 million incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs.
