In the 10-month period from April 2016 to January 2017, in the current fiscal, 70.13 billion units of electricity were generated from renewable energy sources, stated Minister for Power Mr. Piyush Goyal in the Lok Sabha.

The electricity generated in the current fiscal up to January is much higher compared to the 65.78 billion units of electricity generated by renewable energy sources in the entire FY2015-16.

As of the end of December last year, 50 GW of renewable energy was installed in India making up 16 percent of the total energy generation.
