Hamburg-based solar installer 1KOMMA5° has secured approximately €70 million (~$78 million) in a new funding round and plans to invest over €100 million (~$112 million) in its energy intelligence platform, Heartbeat AI, in 2027.

The investment will comprise the newly raised €70 million (~$78 million) and €35 million (~$39 million) from the company’s operating cash flow. The funds will support AI development, software capabilities, and market expansion.

b2venture led the funding round, with Japanese cleantech growth fund Marunouchi Innovation Partners (MIP) joining as a new shareholder. Existing investors CalSTRS, eCapital, G2 Venture Partners, and Eurazeo also participated.

The company’s Heartbeat AI platform connects and controls residential energy systems, including solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, electric vehicle chargers, and air conditioning systems, and profitably sells electricity on their behalf on the power exchange. According to the company, the platform helps reduce energy costs and supports grid stability.

Heartbeat AI currently aggregates more than 1 GW of flexible energy capacity across five markets globally. According to 1KOMMA5°, this makes it one of Europe’s largest virtual power plants serving residential customers. The platform optimizes more than 100,000 energy systems, while the company has installed over 300,000 decentralized, controllable energy systems.

In recent months, the company has secured financing facilities of up to €1.5 billion (~$1.7 billion) from banks to support growth across its public-sector and private customer segments.

Existing investors in 1KOMMA5° include Hamilton Lane, CalSTRS, G2VP, Porsche Ventures, Eurazeo, b2venture, eCapital, 2150vc, Norrsken, Blue Elephant Ventures, Sabanci Climate Ventures, the Haniel and Schürfeld family offices, and Jan Klatten.
