<p>Siemens Gamesa, a renewable energy project developer and an engineering procurement construction (EPC) provider, announced that it has bagged the largest order for wind turbines in India.</p>
<p>A statement issued by the company said, “Under the terms of the EPC contract entered into with <a href="http://www.sembcorp.com/en/media/features?Id=9179" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sembcorp Green Infra Ltd</a>, a 100 percent subsidiary of Sembcorp Energy India Ltd, Siemens Gamesa will build the 300 MW wind farm, at which it will install 143 of its SG 2.1-122 turbines, making it the largest single order secured by Siemens Gamesa in India”.</p>
<p>The other milestone implied by this contract, according to the company, is the fact that it is the first order placed for the SG 2.1-122, a turbine specifically fine-tuned for low-speed sites such as those prevalent in India.</p>
<p>The wind project, located in the western state of Gujarat, will be connected to the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS). The 300 MW wind project will supply power to multiple states, helping them to meet their renewable energy requirements.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.siemensgamesa.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Siemens Gamesa</a> will provide all the infrastructure needed to equip, operate, and maintain the project for a period of ten years. The wind project is due to be commissioned in April 2019.</p>
<p>&#8220;This contract marks a landmark in Siemens Gamesa&#8217;s strategy in India on account of both the size of the project and the technology selected. Moreover, it sends a very positive signal regarding the market&#8217;s momentum and shores up our confidence in its full recovery&#8221;, Ramesh Kymal, the CEO of Siemens Gamesa&#8217;s onshore division in India, said in the media statement.</p>
<p>Sembcorp Energy India Limited (SEIL) is an independent power producer which operates power generation assets across thermal and renewable power sectors in India. As of December 31, 2017, the company had a diversified portfolio of power assets, with an overall power generation capacity of approximately 4.37 GW spread across seven states.</p>
<p>In other news, the accumulated base installed by Siemens Gamesa recently topped the 5 GW mark in India, according to the company. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy was created in April 2017 through the merger of Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica and Siemens Wind Power.</p>
<p>In March 2018, Mercom <a href="https://mercomindia.com/siemens-gamesa-160-mw-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Siemens Gamesa won two contracts for the development of 160 MW of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in India.</p>
