<p>Tata Power Solar has developed a solar carport on the rooftop of the 70,000-square-meter Unity One Mall in Rohini, Delhi. The carport was commissioned on November 27, 2017 and is expected to offset 438 tons of carbon emissions annually.</p>
<p>Tata Power Solar won the bid to develop the project in an open tender process fielded by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for multi-level car parking. The project falls under the net‑metering program because it enables self-reliance in energy consumption and production.</p>
<p>Ashish Khanna, executive director and chief executive officer of Tata Power Solar, said, “We feel proud to be associated with yet another milestone solar project for India. It has been achieved by our excellent engineering skills and project management capabilities. After earning the distinction of executing the world’s largest rooftop at a single location and India’s largest carport at Cochin, we feel proud to accomplish another unique carport rooftop project.”</p>
<p>This project will enable the mall to receive real value from the energy produced by the solar carport by allowing it to earn money on the unused and excess solar electricity that it produces. The system also cuts down on the need to install a second meter or an expensive battery storage system because it is directly connected to the local power grid.</p>
<p>Tata Power Solar recently made a strategic shift away from manufacturing and toward engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracting.</p>
<p>Mercom <a href="https://mercomindia.com/tata-power-solar-sales-jump-52-profit-triples/">previously reported</a> that Tata Power Solar’s net sales in fiscal year 2017 increased by 52 percent against the year-earlier period to ₹22.62 billion (~$350.73 million). By comparison, net sales of ₹14.9 billion (~$231.03 million) were reported in fiscal year 2016. The company revealed that revenues increased by more than 250 percent during the last two years. Tata Power Solar also reported that its after-tax profit increased by 330 percent in FY 2017.</p>
<p>According to  <a href="https://mercomindia.com/product/q3-2017-india-solar-quarterly-market-update/">Mercom India’s Q3 2017 Solar Quarterly Market Update</a>, Tata Power was the top rooftop installer in India as of the third quarter.</p>
