<p><a href="https://www.hanwha-qcells.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hanwha Q CELLS</a>, a manufacturer of solar cells and modules, has signed a multi-party memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which it will supply solar modules for rooftop solar installations atop various gas stations across South Korea.</p>
<p>As part of the project, Hanwha Q CELLS will provide solar modules to members of the Korea Oil Station Association (KOSA). There are a few other companies which are involved in the project: Dasstech Co. Ltd. will provide the power inverters for efficient energy conversion, Dongwon EnC Corp. will look after the installation process, and Jeonbuk Bank Ltd is offering financial support for the project.</p>
<p>“This exciting project is part of Hanwha Q CELLS Korea’s ongoing efforts to continue to increase the development of solar power generation and expand market demand. Solar-powered gas stations are an interesting hybrid concept that combines solar energy with fossil fuels, illustrating how both energy sources can work side-by-side in a real business environment,” said Hyun-Soo Cho, President and CEO of Hanwha Q CELLS Korea in a media release.</p>
<p>The project will save the land space by utilizing the unused space of a gas stations’ rooftop, which are typically taller than other adjacent structures in South Korea. The height of these structures makes it more suitable for harnessing solar energy. These rooftop projects can also be connected to the distributed generation system.</p>
<p>Gas station owners can receive Renewable Energy Certification by installing these solar panels. Along with it, they can also get up to 50 percent more benefits in comparison to fossil-based power source.</p>
<p>According to a preliminary estimate, if all 13,000 gas stations in Korea install solar panels, they can generate 300 MW which will be sufficient to meet the power demand of 90,000 local households every year.</p>
