<p><a href="https://about.fb.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Facebook</a> has partnered with renewable energy company <a href="https://www.cleanmax.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CleanMax</a> to further the global tech giant’s sustainability ambitions in India. As part of the deal, Facebook will procure renewable energy from wind and solar facilities set up by CleanMax.</p>
<p>Under the agreement, Facebook and CleanMax are to assemble a portfolio of wind and solar projects supplying renewable power into India’s electrical grid in states where Facebook facilities are also present.</p>
<p>A 32 MW wind project located in Karnataka is the first in line to be brought online in the agreement. While CleanMax will own and operate the projects, Facebook will provide long-term support by committing to purchase 100% of the environmental attribute certificates (EACs) from the projects for years to come.</p>
<p>Commenting on the collaboration, Urvi Parekh, Head of renewable energy at Facebook, said, “We’re excited to announce this important step that is helping us support our operations in the region, including our offices in India, with 100% renewable energy. This partnership with CleanMax will enable new solar and wind power to be generated in the near future, contributing to the decarbonization of the Indian electrical grid.”</p>

<p>Facebook has also announced that it is using renewable energy to the extent of 100% of its energy consumption and has achieved net-zero emissions in its global operations.</p>
<p>Earlier this month, the social media company had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/facebook-5mw-sunseap-groups-offshore-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a multi-year virtual power purchase agreement with Singapore-based Sunseap Group to procure solar energy from Singapore’s largest offshore floating solar farm in the Straits of Johor.</p>
<p>According to Mercom’s India Solar Market Leaderboard for 1H of 2020, CleanMax had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/tata-fourth-partner-cleanmax-leading-rooftop-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">emerged</a> as one of the top rooftop solar installers in the country.</p>
<p>Last year, U.S.-based global food corporation Cargill had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/cleanmax-installs-15-mw/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a joint venture with CleanMax to set up a 15 MW wind and solar hybrid power park in Karnataka’s Davangere.</p>
