					</table><p>Saudi Arabia-based energy company <a href="https://www.acwapower.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACWA Power</a> has signed financing agreements with a consortium of investors to develop Al Shuaibah 1 and Al Shuaibah 2 solar projects for a total investment of SAR8.3 billion (~$2.2 billion).</p>
<p>ACWA Power had signed power purchase agreements with the Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel) in November last year to develop these solar projects with a 2,060 MW capacity, expected to begin commercial operations by the fourth quarter of 2025.</p>
<p>The total financing package encompasses SAR6.1 billion (~$1.6 billion) in senior debt. The senior debt includes a SAR1.7 billion (~$453 million) Saudi Riyal-denominated loan secured from the National Development Fund on behalf of the National Infrastructure Fund.</p>
<p>A substantial $1.2 billion commercial facility, denominated in U.S. dollars, has been extended by a consortium of prominent local, regional, and international banks, which include Bank Saudi Fransi, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Mizuho Bank, Riyad Bank, Saudi National Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and Saudi Investment Bank.</p>
<p>The financing structure involves a combination of long-term debt and equity, with ACWA Power, Badeel, and Saudi Aramco forming the core stakeholders. ACWA Power holds a 35% equity stake in the projects, reinforcing its commitment to driving sustainable and innovative energy solutions in Saudi Arabia.</p>
<p>Comprising development, design, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, testing, ownership, operation, and maintenance, both Al Shuaibah 1 and Al Shuaibah 2 projects will significantly contribute to Saudi Arabia&#8217;s renewable energy goals.</p>
<p>Badeel and Saudi National Bank are deemed related parties to ACWA Power under the regulatory definition of such relationships.</p>
<p>In May this year, Badeel and ACWA Power <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/saudi-sovereign-fund-subsidiary-acwa-develop-4-55-gw-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> an investment of SAR12.2 billion (~$3.25 billion) to develop and operate 4.55 GW of solar power projects. The companies signed power purchase agreements with the Saudi Power Procurement Company to develop and operate three new solar power projects in the country.</p>
<p>Earlier this January, Saudi Arabia <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/saudi-arabia-aims-to-generate-15-twh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> its plans to generate 15.1 TWh of renewable energy annually by 2024, sufficient to meet the power requirements of 692,557 households.</p>

ACWA Finalizes $2.2 Billion Financing for Two Solar Projects in Saudi Arabia

					</table><p>Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy project developer <a href="https://masdar.ae/">Masdar</a> submitted the lowest bid of $1.62/kWh under the independent power producer model for the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai with a capacity of 1.8 GW.</p>
<p>Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (<a href="https://www.dewa.gov.ae/en/">DEWA</a>) received two bids from <a href="https://www.acwapower.com/en/">ACWA Power</a> and Masdar.</p>
<p>The project is scheduled to begin operations in stages starting in the fourth quarter of 2024.</p>
<p>&#8220;To realize the ambitious goals outlined in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to derive 100% of Dubai&#8217;s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, an estimated 42 GW of clean and renewable energy is required. Al Maktoum Solar Park&#8217;s solar projects collectively generate a total production capacity of 2.32 GW, with an additional 533 MW currently under construction. Upon completing the sixth phase, the solar park&#8217;s production capacity will surge to an impressive 4.66 GW,&#8221; said Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA&#8217;s esteemed MD &amp; CEO.</p>
<p>Al Tayer said that DEWA is committed to completing the phases of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park according to the highest international standards using the latest solar power technologies to enhance the shift towards a green sustainable economy by increasing the share of clean and renewable energy.</p>
<p>He noted that when completed, the solar park will reduce over 6.5 million tons of carbon emissions annually.</p>
<p>DEWA initiated the procurement process for the sixth phase by issuing a tender in September 2022, followed by request for qualification to 23 interested bidders. After a rigorous qualification process, DEWA shortlisted seven international bidders and issued the request for proposal in December 2022.</p>
<p>DEWA is currently evaluating the bids and aims to select the preferred bidder by the third quarter of this year.</p>
<p>Last November, DEWA <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-parks-fifth-phase-adds-300-capacity">added</a> 300 MW of clean energy production capacity to the fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This was an addition to the 300 MW that became operational last year. The fifth phase is underway with a total capacity of 900 MW and will be operational in phases until 2030.</p>
<p>DEWA plans to <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/dubai-to-invest-11-billion-to-expand-clean-energy-projects">invest</a> $10.88 billion in capital expenditure in the next five years, including expanding renewable and clean energy projects. It also plans to invest $3.26 billion to complete the independent power producer projects in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the Hassyan Power Complex, and independent water producer projects at Hassyan.</p>

Under the revised guidelines, if an applicant has multiple manufacturing sites or sources the finished products from other manufacturers and sells them under their brand name, all manufacturing sites, including the applicant’s own, must be inspected unless an exception applies.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/india-missed-2022-renewables-target" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy report has isolated underwhelming progress on rooftop solar and wind energy projects as the primary reason for India falling</strong></a> short of achieving its renewable energy capacity target of 175 GW by 2022. India had set an ambitious target of installing 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022, which included 100 GW from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from bio-power, and 5 GW from small hydropower. However, as of December 31, 2022, only 69% of the goal, or 120.9 GW of renewable energy capacity, had been installed in the country.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renewables-generation-capacity-added-in-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Renewable capacity grew by 9.6% in 2022, adding a record 295 GW worldwide. This accounts for 83% of all power capacity added last year and brings the global renewable</strong></a> generation capacity to 3,372 GW by the end of last year, a report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said. The IRENA’s Renewable Capacity Statistics 2023 confirmed that renewable energy is growing at record levels, defying global uncertainties and affirming the decline of fossil-fuelled power generation.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/regulator-wind-firm-msedcl-recompute-delayed-payment-charge" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission recently directed Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution</strong></a> Company (MSEDCL) to recompute the delayed payment charge from April 2012 to September 2017 according to the notified SBI benchmark interest rate and adjust the surplus amount accordingly. HPCL had filed a petition against MSEDCL for non-compliance with the Commission’s earlier order in which MSEDCL was asked to pay ₹9.89 million (~$120,240) as the outstanding delayed payment charge for the 3.75 MW project at Dhule.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/china-securities-commission-approves-canadian-solars-ipo" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The China Securities Regulatory Commission has approved the registration of CSI Solar, the engineering, procurement, and construction arm of solar module maker Canadian Solar</strong></a>, to issue an initial public offering (IPO). The company’s CEO, Shawn Qu, said CSI expects the completion of the IPO by the second quarter of the current financial year. Canadian Solar plans to use the proceeds from the IPO to further accelerate vertical integration and capacity expansion, particularly in the U.S. market.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/one-step-perovskite-solar-cells-commercially-viable" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has devised a new way to produce perovskite solar cells that could speed its commercialization.</strong></a> Different layers are typically added sequentially to a conductive glass substrate to create perovskite solar cells, requiring multiple coatings. However, the new method developed eliminates or merges some of these steps, simplifying the manufacturing process and potentially reducing costs. After 1,200 hours of continuous operation, the team created a high-efficiency solar cell that maintained over 90% of its initial efficiency.</p>

					</table><p>Saudi Arabia-based energy company <a href="https://acwapower.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACWA Power</a> has signed power purchase and investment agreements with <a href="https://www.uzbekistonmet.uz/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan</a>, and the <a href="https://miit.uz/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade</a> to develop new solar and battery storage projects in Uzbekistan.</p>
<p>The partnership will work towards developing three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Tashkent and Samarkand, and three battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand.</p>
<p>While the total capacity of PV projects is be 1.4 GW, the capacity of the BESS projects would be 1.5 GWh. The Tashkent projects will comprise a 400 MW solar PV plant and 500 MWh BESS.</p>
<p>Two 500 MW photovoltaic projects each and a 500 MWh battery storage system will be developed in Samarkand.</p>
<p>ACWA said another 500 MWh battery storage system will be in Bukhara, and the project will include overhead transmission lines to help dispatch power to the power grid.</p>
<p>The BESS will help store excess electricity generated during times of high production and make it available during periods of low production. It will also ensure the supply of constant and reliable power to the grid, ultimately catering to Uzbekistan’s rising demand for energy.</p>
<p>The Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara PV and BESS projects will contribute to $2.5 billion of new investments as part of the targeted $10 billion commitment signed between ACWA Power and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy for investments in green projects, in the next five years.</p>

<p>Uzbekistan targets generating 35% of power from renewable sources by 2030, equating to 15 GW with a share of 10 GW of solar power and 5 GW of wind power. Achieving this target will help the country offset 16 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.</p>
<p>Last December, ACWA Power <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/acwa-power-to-billion-for-gw-wind-projects-in-uzbekistan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> it will invest $2.4 billion to develop wind projects of 1.5 GW capacity in Uzbekistan, for which the company also signed power purchase agreements with the country’s government.</p>
<p>In June last year, a consortium led by ACWA Power <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/acwa-consortium-to-develop-1-1-gw-onshore-wind-project-in-egypt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement to develop a 1.1 GW onshore wind project in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez Gabal el Zeit area with an estimated investment of $1.5 billion.</p>

ACWA Power to Develop Solar and Energy Storage Projects in Uzbekistan

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) </strong><a href="https://www.seci.co.in/whats-new-detail/2293" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the annulment of the tender it had issued to develop a 5 MW grid-connected ground-mounted solar power project</strong> at V. O. Chidambaranar Port Trust in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The scope of work included design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of the project at VOCPT, Tuticorin. This is the second time this tender has been canceled. It was <a href="https://mercomindia.com/seci-issues-epc-tender-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reissued</a> in December last year.</p>
<p><strong>Mahindra Susten </strong><a href="https://www.greenpowermonitor.com/greenpowermonitor-provides-integrated-solutions-for-indias-first-of-its-kind-hybrid-solar-and-storage-powered-town/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>selected</strong></a><strong> GreenPowerMonitor, a digital solution provider for renewable energy plants, to provide the integrated onsite control, monitoring, data management, and display solutions for hybrid solar and storage project in Modhera Gujarat.</strong> The hybrid project includes a 6 MW solar photovoltaic system and a 15 MWh Battery Energy Storage System to supply 24/7 solar energy to 1,400 households. The company claims that the implemented GreenPowerMonitor’s Power Plant Controller and Energy Management System solutions have showcased their flexibility in hardware design and software configuration to implement complex functions and a high-level, customized control philosophy in this project.</p>
<p><strong>Wärtsilä, a Finland-based technology group, </strong><a href="https://www.wartsila.com/media/news/23-05-2022-wartsila-to-partner-with-capwatt-in-green-hydrogen-blending-project-in-portugal-3105184" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> its collaboration with Capwatt, a Portuguese independent power producer, to test green hydrogen and natural gas blend fuel</strong> for Capwatt’s power plant in Maia. The project will start in the first quarter of 2023, and it aims at testing blends of up to 10 vol.% green hydrogen. The combined heat and power plant, which provides energy for Sonae Campus and the national grid, currently operates with a Wärtsilä 34SG engine running on natural gas. According to the company, this will be one of the first cases where green hydrogen is used to lessen the carbon footprint of an existing gas-fueled Wärtsilä power plant.</p>
<p><strong>Bloom Energy, a U.S.-based solid oxide fuel cells manufacturer, and LSB Industries, the North American producer of industrial and agricultural chemicals, </strong><a href="https://www.bloomenergy.com/news/lsb-industries-turns-to-bloom-energy-to-build-10-mw-solid-oxide-electrolyzer-for-large-scale-green-hydrogen-production/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> plans to install a 10 MW solid oxide electrolyzer</strong> at LSB’s Pryor, Oklahoma facility. The project will generate green hydrogen that will synthesize approximately 13,000 metric tons of zero-carbon ammonia per year. The 10 MW solid oxide electrolyzer installation would demonstrate the ability of hydrogen to decarbonize ammonia production and other industrial sectors. ThyssenKrupp, a global technology, engineering, procurement, construction, and service provider to chemical plants, will co-develop the multi-phase project, developing an initial engineering design to convert a small portion of existing conventional ammonia capacity at LSB’s Pryor facility into green ammonia. Bloom Energy will then install, operate, and maintain the electrolyzer, targeting hydrogen production in 2023.</p>

Daily News Wrap-Up: SECI Annuls Tender for a 5 MW Solar Project in Tuticorin

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>Independent power producer ReNew Power has </strong><a href="https://renewpower.in/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/ReNew_7GW_Capacity_Addition_2021.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>achieved</strong></a><strong> a total operating capacity of 7.4 GW. </strong>The bulk of ReNew&#8217;s organic capacity addition that led the company to surge past the 7 GW landmark is located in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The 1.5 GW capacity addition in the current fiscal year comprises more than 1.3 GW of utility-scale solar projects. These include 1.2 GW in Rajasthan, 105 MW in Gujarat, and 20 MW in Maharashtra. Over 150 MW has been installed in wind projects, including 136 MW in Karnataka and 22 MW in Gujarat. These capacity additions in FY 22 are expected to offset over 75,000 million tons of CO2 emissions.</p>
<p><strong>Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has </strong><a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1783446" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>awarded</strong></a><strong> a 100 MW solar contract with a battery project in Chhattisgarh to Tata Power. </strong>The project, supported by the World Bank, SECI&#8217;s internal resources, and domestic loans, is key to a line of innovative renewable energy projects planned by SECI. Tata Power earlier had won SECI&#8217;s auction for a 20 MW solar power project with a 50 MWh battery energy storage system in Ladakh.</p>
<p><strong>German development bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (</strong><a href="https://www.kfw-entwicklungsbank.de/International-financing/KfW-Entwicklungsbank/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>KfW</strong></a><strong>) and the Government of India have </strong><a href="https://www.psuconnect.in/news/surat-metro-project:-india-signs-euro-442-million-loan-with-germany-development-bank-kfw/30574" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> a €442.26 million (~$503.40 million) loan agreement to develop the Surat Metro Rail project. </strong>Solar energy will be harnessed at both depots of the metro project, which is envisaged to span 40.35 km. KfW will offer €442.26 (~$503.40 million) million of the total project cost of €1.50 billion (~$1.69 billion). The project is also co-financed by French Development Agency, Agence Française de Développemet (AFD). The government had signed a loan agreement with AFD in January this year for €250 million (~$282 million).</p>
<p><strong>Bangladesh&#8217;s 130 MWp Bagerhat solar power project is now </strong><a href="https://en.prnasia.com/releases/apac/bangladesh-s-largest-solar-power-plant-installed-with-sungrow-central-inverter-solutions-comes-online-346011.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>operational</strong></a><strong>.</strong> Located in Khulna, the project will generate power equivalent to that produced by more than 324,000 tons of coal a year. The project is connected to 132/33 KV Mongla PGCB Grid Substation through a 9 km transmission line. With 95% of Bangladesh&#8217;s power generation stemming from gas, diesel, and coal, this 130 MWp project is a significant development for a nation with a total grid-connected capacity of approximately 100 MW in 2020. Due to Bangladesh&#8217;s humid and hot climate, Sungrow&#8217;s SG3125HV 1500Vdc inverter system was used, which can operate without derating even when it is up to 50 °C.</p>
<p><strong>Saudi Arabia&#8217;s energy major ACWA Power has </strong><a href="https://www.acwapower.com/news/acwa-power-signs-agreement-for-100mw-uzbekistan-wind-power-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>finalized</strong></a><strong> the project agreements for Uzbekistan&#8217;s 100 MW Nukus wind project. </strong>The project is estimated to cost $108 million. The Nukus wind farm is Uzbekistan&#8217;s first publicly tendered wind project. ACWA Power won the competitive bid after proposing a $2.56/kWh tariff. The Nukus wind farm&#8217;s financial close is expected to be finalized by the third quarter of 2022, with commercial operations scheduled for early 2024. The Nukus wind farm is ACWA Power&#8217;s fourth project in Uzbekistan, after the $1.2 billion Sirdarya project, the 500 MW Bash facility, and the $1.3 billion Djankedly wind power project in Bukhara.</p>
<p><a href="https://kpigil.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>KPI Global Infrastructure </strong></a><strong>has bagged an order from</strong> <strong>Vineet Polyfab for executing solar power projects of 2.50 MWdc </strong>capacity under the captive power producer segment. Earlier, the company had bagged orders from Gandhar Food Products, N. J. Texturisers, Sai Laxmi Tex, Shabnam Petrofils, and Vihita Chem for executing solar power projects of 5.084 MWdc capacity under the captive power producer segment.</p>

<p><strong>Global energy player ENGIE</strong><strong> and Masdar have </strong><a href="https://www.engie.com/en/journalists/press-releases/engie-and-masdar-form-us-5-billion-strategic-alliance-to-drive-uae-s-green-hydrogen-economy" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> a strategic alliance agreement to explore the co-development of a 2 GW green hydrogen hub in the United Arab Emirates. </strong>The two companies said they are looking to develop projects with an investment of $5 billion. Masdar said that the partnership aims to capture synergies and complementarities between itself, as a renewables developer and investor, and Engie’s leadership position in green hydrogen deployment to establish an early mover position in the UAE’s hydrogen market. The company added that it would initially target local supply to expand capacity to create a giga-scale green hydrogen hub for the Gulf Cooperation Council, potentially exporting to other markets.</p>
<p><strong>Tata Power and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) have </strong><a href="https://www.tatapower.com/media/PressReleaseDetails/1901/tata-power-and-iit-madras-to-collaborate-on-rnd-consultancy-advocacy-training-and-technology-solutions" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in research and development, </strong>consultancy, policy advocacy, advisory, training, and commercialization of technologies and solutions. Tata Power and IITM will aim to pursue advanced research in areas of future technology. The agreement also includes campus recruitment opportunities for postgraduate students of IITM.  A few objectives agreed upon by Tata Power and IITM as a part of the tie-up are collaborative research projects, including research-based and consulting projects supported by the Center for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&amp;SR), IITM.</p>
<p><strong>KPI Global Infrastructure has </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/b7fdcc82-afd2-48d0-8c99-d24c5f8e26bf.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>bagged</strong></a><strong> orders from Chougle Salt Works, Gandhar Food Products, and Murlidhar Tex Prints for executing solar power projects of 1.10 MWdc </strong>capacity under the captive power producer segment. The company will install 250 kW each at Chougle Salt Works and Gandhar Food Products, while 600 kW will be installed at Murlidhar Tex Prints<strong>. </strong>Earlier, the company had bagged a repeat order for executing a solar power project of 5.20 MWdc capacity from Devika Fibres Private Limited.</p>
<p><strong>Solar module manufacturer JinkoSolar Holding </strong><a href="https://www.jinkosolar.com/en/site/newsdetail/1659" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that its principal operating subsidiary, Jinko Solar,  has signed a distribution agreement for distributed generation with Aldo Solar. </strong>Aldo Solar is a distributor of solar energy solutions in Brazil with a 31% market share. Under the agreement, over 4 million photovoltaic modules— equivalent to 2 GW of installed power—will be distributed. The contract assures the resellers and installers of solar energy in Brazil the continuity of the commercialization of the Tiger Pro series of panels. Jinko claims this is the largest distribution agreement it has signed outside China.</p>

Daily News Wrap-Up: Engie, Masdar to Invest $5 Billion in a 2 GW Green Hydrogen Facility

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has </strong><a href="https://www.seci.co.in/whats-new-detail/2216" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> power sale agreements (PSA) to supply 5.28 GW of renewable energy until October 31, 2021, for the financial year (FY) 2021-22. </strong>The aggregate PSAs signed now stand at over 30 GW, i.e., a 95% year-over-year increase compared to FY 2021. According to SECI, these PSAs will enable the supply of up to 19 billion units of renewable power annually to eight states and union territories for 25 years.</p>
<p><strong>India has invited the Gulf Cooperation Council (</strong><a href="https://www.gcc-sg.org/en-us/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>GCC</strong></a><strong>) member countries to invest in the sustainable energy sectors in the country. </strong>Addressing the representatives of the GCC countries at  EXPO2020 Dubai, Foreign Ministry Joint Secretary Vipul said India had increased foreign direct investment limits along with opening up of the sectors like defense, telecom, and insurance<strong>. </strong>India is expected to attract foreign investments of up to $120-160 billion annually, and Gulf countries were best placed to exploit this opportunity. He said India would be having 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, and GCC nations can capitalize on investments in sustainability technologies like renewable and hydrogen energy, electric vehicles, and health technology.</p>
<p><strong>Adani Green Energy (</strong><a href="https://www.adanigreenenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>AGEL</strong></a><strong>) and Adani Transmission </strong><strong>(</strong><a href="https://www.adanitransmission.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>ATL</strong></a><strong>) have declared their Energy Compact Goals as part of COP26, primarily adhering to Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7).  </strong>AGEL has set a target of achieving 45 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030, with the average tariff below the average power purchase cost. It will invest $20 billion in renewable energy development over the next decade and develop a 2 GW per year solar manufacturing capacity by FY 2022-23. ATL is on course to increase the share of renewable power procurement from 3% to 30% by FY 2023 and 70% by FY 2030 through its utility subsidiary in Mumbai.</p>
<p><strong>Portugal-based electric utility company EDP </strong><a href="https://www.edp.com/en/news/2021/11/09/edp-plans-invest-15-gw-renewable-hydrogen-2030" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>plans</strong></a><strong> to produce 1.5 GW of electricity from renewable hydrogen by 2030. </strong>The goal was announced as part of the H2Zero commitment of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to accelerate the development of green hydrogen. The company said that these projects were aimed at regions with a favorable context for developing hydrogen projects, namely good solar and wind resources, support infrastructures, proximity to industrial clients, and a favorable regulatory environment. The company&#8217;s investment plan foresees converting old coal-fired thermoelectric plants into hydrogen centers and new production units. The newly announced ambition reinforces the goals of EDP&#8217;s strategic plan, which already envisaged investing in 250 MW of hydrogen electrolyzers capacity by 2025.</p>
<p><strong>Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri </strong><a href="https://twitter.com/HardeepSPuri/status/1457965218177245192" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>tweeted</strong></a><strong> that government-owned oil companies would set up 22,000 EV charging stations in India. </strong>Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) will set up 10,000 stations. IOCL has already installed 439 EV charging stations and plans to install 2000 charging stations in its retail outlet network over the next year. Another 1,000 EV charging stations will be set up by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) within the next year and 7,000 overall. BPCL has already set up 52 stations. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, which has installed 382 EV charging stations, will set up 1,000 stations in the next year and 5,000 overall.</p>

Daily News Wrap-Up: SECI Signs PSAs for 5.28 GW of Renewables to Date in FY 2022

<p>Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (<a href="https://www.dewa.gov.ae/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DEWA</a>) has signed an agreement to add 250 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) at the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This increases the total capacity of the solar park from 700 MW to 950 MW.</p>
<p>The agreement was amended to include power purchase agreement (PPA) with the consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power which also includes China&#8217;s Shanghai Electric for the additional 250 MW solar PV to be developed for a tariff of $0.024/kWh, one of the world&#8217;s lowest utility-scale solar tariffs. With this, the total investment for the entire project has reached AED 16 billion (~$ 4.36 billion).</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/uae-phase-four-concentrated-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In March 2018</a>, Mercom reported that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is set to become the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The solar park is set to generate 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030 and once completed, the project is expected to provide clean energy to over 270,000 residences in Dubai and eliminate 1.4 million tons of carbon emissions per year.</p>
<p>Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “The capacity expansion of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park further consolidates the UAE’s leadership in the field of sustainable development and provides another impetus to our clean energy strategy.”</p>
<p>This is the world’s largest investment project using concentrated solar power (CSP) on a single site.  The project will use three technologies &#8211; 600MW from a parabolic basin complex, 100MW from a solar tower, and 250MW from solar PV panels.</p>
<p>This project is said to have already achieved many world records. It achieved Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) of $0.073/kWh for the CSP technology, the lowest worldwide. The project will have the world’s tallest solar tower at 260 metres, and the largest thermal energy storage capacity in the world of 15 hours, which allows for energy generation round the clock.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/saud-arabia-pif-acquires-stake-acwa-power/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Earlier</a>, Mercom has reported that The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia has acquired a 15.2 percent stake in International Company for Water and Power Projects (<a href="http://www.acwapower.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACWA Power</a>), a developer, owner, and operator of power generation and water desalination plants.</p>
